Sydney's Orange Hat

There is something very special about painting a child that you know and love. This is Sydney, my only grandaughter, when she was a toddler. I was fascinated by the interplay of the colors she was wearing that day - and particularly the orange hat with the flush of her skin.

My goodness. What a pretty model you have there! You've captured her rosy cheeks brilliantly!

"Who's that in the painting, Sydney?"
"Ummm...it's me, Mom. Didn't you know that?"
If a child can recognize herself in a painting, then you know that it's realistic!

Sydney is not only a beautiful child - but also very intelligent! I think she may become an artist herself one day...
