One of the joys of winter is the number of different birds we get at our feeders in the backyard. This little jay announces his arrival as he is coming in for a landing. If you have ever heard a jay, you know that their voice is piercing and carries a long distance. All the other small birds scatter as the jay takes over the space and eats. If you look closely, you can see the piece of sunflower seed that he has in his beak.

The detail in this picture is extraordinary. You'd think that you were sitting there all day just waiting for an opportunity to catch him in just the right pose. Why is it that the mischievous creatures are always the "lookers"? He's a beauty!
Joanne,
Thanks for the info. about the slide show. I'll have to try it when I have some extra time. Today I'm going to paint and watch the snow fall. We have another big storm coming our way! Keep in touch. I like your iris painting, is that oil, acrylic?
Thanks, Kim, for your comments! I, too, love the detailing of this jay's feathers. In the closeup, you can even see the tiny feathers around his beak which make him look like he has a beard! Have a great week...
Hi Jean, How nice to have the whole day to paint as snow is falling. I feel like it is such a cozy experience when that happens! For me, it has to be on a day off as I have something called a "day job" which I am about to leave for. The iris is acrylic. I have never tried oils, although now that there are water mercible oils, I have been tempted! :-) Have a nice week in spite of the snow.
I love the shallow depth of field in this shot. The blurred background adds to the sharpness of the bird. The vivid blue is just striking.
Multi-talented.... that is what you are. :)
Thanks, Michelle! I do enjoy when a picture turns out! And speaking of talent...I'm waiting to see your next posting, girl! :-)
Joanne,
I added you under my artists links...I hope that's ok with you. I also worked on adding a slideshow to my blog. I've been painting a package of M&M's this week and it's driving me crazy. Take care and keep painting!
Thank you Jean, for adding my name to your blog! I am honored! Your slide show looks great - glad you got it up and running. With your painting of M & M's...I have heard it helps to eat them as you are painting them. Something in the chocolate part calms the spirit (lol). Talk to you again soon.
