Oh Canada

Today is Canada Day. There are celebrations and parades in most every city and town in the country. A short distance from my home, there is a farm which has this very old and weathered mail box at the end of their drive. I thought it would be appropriate to paint and post for Canada Day. This is a little study I did - and I have not gotten to the next stage of painting it larger and better. I am thinking that at the rate I am going, it may be next year's Canada Day when the larger edition is completed.

I am almost finished with the Spanish lady - just a few details and she will be posted. I have decided that full sheet watercolor paintings are not good for quickly finishing and posting on a blog - for me they take a great deal of time.

As well, I have learned a good lesson... Sunflowers did not sell in the charity auction for Empty Bowls - nor did other artists' work which was also on a larger scale. I guess one has to account for the fact that smaller might sell more readily than larger. Next time, I will enter something much smaller.

So... if there are any people who would like to purchase Sunflowers out there, here is the picture of it again. It is acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas, and is 30 inches by 30 inches. The edges are painted black so that it is ready to hang as is. You do not need a frame for it.

If you wish to purchase this painting, or commission one similar to it, please contact me at jogiesbrecht@gmail.com

Happy Canada Day to all Canadians. And in 3 days, Happy Independence Day to all Americans!

Hi Joanne - I'm a salt glaze potter in Perth Ontario. I was intrigued by your passing reference to Empty Bowls. I'd like to learn more about the event in your neck of the woods. If it is an ongoing project I'd be happy to post a link on my website.

Can you put me in touch with the organizers? Thanks -

Hi Jackie,

I am happy to put you in touch with the organizers of Empty Bowls in Airdrie. I will send you a separate e-mail. Your pottery looks amazing! I would love to learn how to do what you do - the whole process really appeals to me. I once took a hand-construction course, but thought the wheel woudl be much more satisfying. Thanks for stopping by! Hope to "talk" with you again.

Thanks, Frank. Do you celebrate July 4th even though you are out of the country? If so, have a great day. If not, have a great day. :-)

There are a lot of Fourth of July get togethers down here Joanne. Lots of Americans.
We'll just have a few ribs on the grill and some corn etc...
Thanks.

I'm sorry to hear that your piece didn't sell! Silly bidders! I'm sure it's home will come along sooner or later. :)

I can hardly wait to see where you take the bigger version of this piece! Then I'll want to see the study next to the piece. :)
