Baby Giraffe

So here is the painting after the final pour of primary colors.  This provides the undercolor for the placement of lights and darks.

And here is the next stage where the mother's coat has its first pass and the background is in place.  I am about to remove the masking from the baby and begin on its features.  My next posting will have the first and maybe even the second pass of color done!

Wow Joanne, the background has such depth and richness. This will be amazing as it progresses. Sorry I haven't been blogging much, but I wanted to tell you how much I love the rhino. This is a great series that you are working on.

Wow! Joanne,
Watercolor looks like a lot of work...I think I'll stick with oils and pastels. This piece is coming along wonderfully. Take care!

Hi Jean,
For a lot of people, watercolor is quick and easy... but for the effect I want, it is stage by stage. On the other hand, I find pastels to be really tricky! So I guess we each have our one medium that sings for us! Hope your summer is fantastic. :-)
