This is our indoor cat, Catch. She sleeps in this basket at certain times throughout the day. Catch is sooo big that she has to stuff herself in there. It reminds me of a big turkey in a roasting pan - parts of her extend beyond the confines of the edges of the basket, just like the legs of the turkey sometimes do at Christmas. We inherited this cat from our daughter a number of years ago - and we wondered about her unusual name. She actually will try to catch with her paws, a small, balled-up piece of paper if you throw it in the air. She will also retrieve it in her mouth and bring it back to you to throw again. It's quite funny to see her trying to spit it out at your feet.
Okay - on to the reporting! This month has actually been full of "first time ever" events - without me even trying!

The beginning of the month, I attended my first ever Seder (Passover) Meal. It was fantastic! It was so meaningful to have every aspect of the meal explained, and to participate with about 400 other people.
Another first time ever is the 6 week oil painting demonstration class that I am attending with Canadian oil painter Robert E Wood. I have never been involved in something like this before, and I am learning so much! It is exciting, inspirational, and moving me along in my goal of learning to paint in oil much faster than I expected. (BONUS!)
For the first time I have an art student! She is a 10 year old who loves animals, loves to draw, and wants to learn how to paint - especially fur on animals. She is enthusiastic, eager to learn, and putting everything I teach her into immediate practice. Very special! We are working toward creating a painting which she will enter in a competition for kids in her age group (in May).
And, for the first time ever, I went to a Critters and Crafts show to see chickens, up close and personal! If you read a previous blog, you know that we are thinking about raising 6 chicks for eggs. We are not sure yet... it is a big commitment, and not an inexpensive one either. So we'll continue to investigate and research, then make a decision. :-)

I love this chicken idea.... It's one that I would consider, as I've always wanted some sort of mini farm on our property. Don't get me started on how much I want a miniature donkey! But what do you do if you want to go away on a holiday? Get a chicken sitter?
Oh Cynthia! You are a woman after my own heart!!! A miniature donkey! I would come to visit just to see it. :-) According to what I read, you can't leave chickens without someone to give them water and food every single day, so yes... you would need a chicken sitter! That is definitely a drawback... we do have neighbors who have girls that look after our dogs/cats, so I am thinking maybe adding chickens into the mix might not be asking much more. Still - a big consideration.

I laughed at Catch's picture- seems they find the smallest, tightest vessel and after a few curls and turnarounds, they get comfortable. And I can't find a good position in a queen size bed! How does THAT happen?
This workshop sounds like it will propel you further and give you great tools to make that happen.
Chickens, oh chickens, if we were zoned for it here, I'd have chickens, AND a goat. Goats are wonderful, and as affectionate as dogs.
First time evers are even better when they're checked off the list. Then you get to make a new list.
