Alberta Poplar Leaves

Alberta Poplar Leaves
mixed media
20" x 24"

Yes, it's true. Our Alberta skies really are this color! And the poplar trees I have in my backyard "forest" turn these colors in the fall. They also have lots of what I think of as "rot spots" where the leaves have black on them.

This painting is a "mixed media" where the sky color is acrylic and the leaves/branches are in oil paint. I am very pleased with how this turned out. :-)

Well done and fearless combination of acrylic and oil. Those complimentary colors really work so well.
I like the stark clear sky behind the more detailed leaves.
There's something almost Asian in the simplicity of the composition too.
Reminds me of a Japanese textile.
You should be pleased with the way it turned out.

Thank you Bonnie! I am so pleased that you mentioned the simplicity of the composition. At first I wondered if I should do more, but I liked the blue sky so much that I didn't want it to disappear in a plethora of leaves. You have made my day! ((hug))
