"Harbour Seal" is based on one of several photos I was able to capture a few years ago when I was visiting my sister in Campbell River, B.C. 

There was a fantastic little restaurant which was a floating fish and chips place, right on a wharf in the harbour. Just as it was getting dark, two shapes materialized between the boats in the water, and floated up to the side of the wharf. The waitress told us that there were 2 seals coming to be fed fish scraps from the restaurant, as they did most nights. I had my camera with me (yay!) so I ran outside to see these lovely sea creatures. 

I was amazed at how high out of the water they could come to grab the fish and how red the insides of their mouths are!!! And, they have big teeth!

It also surprised me to see all the markings on the seals. I always thought they were just plain grey - but not so with these ones at least! I wonder if each seal's markings are so unique that they can be identified through them, like a fingerprint?

It has taken me years to finally attempt this painting, and I am really happy with the results. Wish you could see it in person. :-) This one is for sale, so if you know of someone who might be interested, have them email me for more information. Thanks!
