Another finished 8.5" x 11" watercolor for my studio art show. I had bought this cheerful bunch of tulips earlier in the year, and took a few photos to paint later. I'm just getting around to it now! But at least it is now ready for the show. :-)

ORANGE TULIPS

There is nothing quite so striking for me as seeing brilliantly colored flowers against a dark background. "Orange Tulips" is done in harmonious colors from the same side of the color wheel. This gives the painting a calm, tranquil feel, even though you realize there is bright sunlight. Usually I do my backgrounds in colors which are on the opposite sides of the color wheel to create that "pop", but here the sunlit tulips create their own pop. :-)
