This is my very first oil painting, and the first time I have painted in any medium on this type of hardwood panel which is from Opus Framing and Art Supplies. I have learned A LOT about oil paint, and the way it does or does not behave. It was great fun to try different things, but wow, is it ever messy!!! This plate was a beautiful one I picked up when we were in Guadalajara. An authentic, original, hand-painted plate like this one is not mass-produced, and has many irregularities. If there is not room for the same number of strokes in any given area, then there are less. If there is more room, then there are more painted strokes to fill the space. Each plate is totally unique!
I have another oil on canvas painting on the easel, as well as a couple of watercolors... but since I have returned to work, each one is not yet finished! For the number of you who expressed disappointment when Sunflowers sold, I am planning to begin another painting of sunflowers - bought some beautiful ones just before the weekend.
I am so happy to be in the final stages of recuperation from surgery with a little more energy returning every day. I received a beautiful stone plaque from some friends that says it all: "Life is good".
