HOME ART SHOW - cards and other stuff!

I've received the cards of my photography and paintings that I will be selling at my home art show. They are so beautiful - I am very excited! I've put together several, like the stone church with the Christmas wreaths on the door, which will make great Christmas cards. The rest of the cards will make great all-occasion cards with original photography or paintings on each one!

In addition, I will have little gift tags with ribbon available for purchase...again with original photos or paintings on them. So fun!

My 2011 calendars feature great photos as well. I'll be picking those up from the printer next week.

I will have limited edition photos of some of my work for sale. They are shown on my website.

And then there are all of the paintings which will be for sale... you can check out all of them and their prices, sizes, medium painted in on my website, under "Art Show". 

So, all in all, I would say I am getting quite close to being ready. I will be working on finishing up a few more paintings over the next week or so, and putting them up on the website as they are completed. Already, 3 of the paintings have pre-sold, so that is very exciting as well.

Saskatoons - a watercolor among many oils

Every nook and cranny was filled with artwork

Walls, tables, shelves, posts - all had paintings relating to trees.

The space was crowded with people while more were coming through the doors.

A very successful opening by any standards!

Friday night was the grand opening of Willow Studio's Art Show. As you can see from the pictures, there were many people in attendance! It really was difficult to move around for most of the evening - but that was a good thing. People were happy, relaxed, interested in the art, and many seemed to know each other. I was the only one snapping pictures with my husband's little point and shoot - which captured the atmosphere quite nicely.

Shona, the curator of the show, did an amazing job of creating space for the 80 paintings which were hung or placed in every available space. As well, she did a fabulous job of grouping them according to colors. It was amazing the number which had, for example, a turquoise blue in them, or a certain hue of red...

There was only one other watercolor painting that I noticed in the entire exhibit. Saskatoons and Pear Tree certainly stood out as delicate and clean compared to the palette knife work on so many of the oils! Of course, that's just my opinion. :-)

This show will be in Calgary from January 8 - April 10th. After that it moves to Saskatoon, SK until July 10th. It is a privilege to have paintings in this prodigious display of artistic talent!

I finally have my webpages up and running which show the paintings and the photographs which will be in my solo art show next weekend. Creating my calendars, cards and limited edition photographs had me learning Adobe's In Design - and I LOVED it! People who know "Strengths Finder" will understand when I say that "Learner" is one of my top 5 strengths - so to learn a new program, even under a tight timeline, was still fun for me. (I bet there has never been a computer that got talked to as much as mine did though!)

Getting ready for this show has been a huge undertaking in the few weeks I have been working on it - but I think I am almost ready. I haven't had time to do much painting, but I think that over the next week and a bit, I might get one more painting completed. Then, after cleaning up the show, it will be back at it in earnest. One of my goals for 2009 was to paint 50 paintings. I have now completed 43 for this year, so only 7 to go!!!

Hope you are all keeping well. The H1N1 flu is sweeping across our country. Last night, when I was talking with a medical doctor, he told me if I am concerned about getting flus and colds, to increase the amount of vitamin D3 which I am taking, from 1000 IU/day to 10,000 IU/day. He told me to google "Vitamin D and Flu" to see how much information and research has been done on this. I am passing this information on to you so that you, too, can research this for yourself.

A few weeks ago I updated my goals for 2009, and mentioned that I had entered 3 juried competitions. One of those competitions was for a local Art Show which will be held in October. I am happy to say that I received confirmation that all 3 of the pieces I entered have been juried into the show... no "declined" this time!

When I sent my entry for this show, I forgot to mail the entry fee with my application form. The director of the show was kind enough to contact me to let me know, and I immediately sent off the cheque. Even though the said cheque was only going about 30 kms., it took almost 2 weeks to get there!!!! I was ready to personally drive a replacement cheque to the director on the day she finally received the original cheque in the mail. Whew! She told me that she receives mail from thousands of miles away in just 3 days. That does not say much for our local post office, does it?

Juried Selection for Art Show

             

                                    
 
            I have just returned from a work-related trip to Seattle which was intense but wonderful. I actually made it to Starbuck's mecca - Pike's Place Market - and enjoyed a Chai Tea Latte from the very first Starbuck's location.  I love ocean, so it was fabulous to be able to watch the ships, and see the lights dance across the water in the evening. Needless to say, I got no painting done this week, so I will have to work hard to catch up!

   Today I got notification that 5 of my paintings have been juried into an art show in Calgary, Alberta that I am very excited to be a part of. What is so cool about this show is that a portion of the price paid for each painting (if each sells, that is) will go to support compassion and justice projects in Central America and Africa. What gave me such pleasure in painting will give another pleasure to own, and at the same time give a child in desperate circumstances food, clothing, and medicines to treat HIV/AIDS.  What could be better than that?
