NEW WATERCOLOR IN PROGRESS

On the last hike we took this summer, I got a photo of juniper berries that I really liked, and I knew it would end up as a watercolor painting. :-)

Here you can see some of the berries and needles being developed. This past week was SOOOO busy, but I plan to spend at least 2 full days painting this coming week, so there should be good progress on this piece soon. As well, I am hoping to finish another oil painting, and I am starting a commissioned pencil portrait of a baby as a Christmas gift for the baby's grandmother. I have to finish it in a couple of weeks as it has to be sent away before the Christmas rush begins.

I am so happy to be an artist! It really fills my sails when I get to be in my studio!

Back to watercolor!

It feels really good to be back in the studio after a long break. Christmas was hectic, noisy, exciting, wonderful! Having our whole family together under one roof for several days was such a fabulous blessing - I cannot tell you! Five grandchildren, six adults, 3 indoor dogs and 2 outdoor dogs, and 2 cats... it was quite the chaos at times, but I loved it.

I have begun a new watercolor painting. The background has been poured...3 layers of color. Now the fun of developing the subject, and refining the background begins. I haven't done watercolor in quite some time, so I really enjoyed the pouring process again, and remembered why I love this difficult (to me) medium!

I hope to post progress at the end of the week. Until then, hope your year has begun well. :-)
