PENCIL PORTRAIT

GIFTING A MEMORY
Today I finished a pencil portrait of a baby girl - at about 4-6 months old. I enjoy doing these portraits, but what I really loved about this one is that it is to be a Christmas gift for the baby's grandmother. The fact that this sweet baby's face will create a lasting memory for the family, and perhaps be handed down to the girl when she is an adult is such a fantastic thought! You want to believe that it was special to work on this piece with that in mind. :-)
Because this is to be a surprise gift, I can't show you the entire portrait, so I thought I'd show you one little part. I'll post the full picture after the holidays.
By the way, have you ever noticed how little girl's sleepers have so much detail in the design???????

As promised, here is another pencil portrait done as a Christmas gift. This time it was the mother of the boys who had the piece done for one of the grandmothers as her Christmas gift. She also had a second one done from a different pose for the other grandmother as well. I'll post that one next time. When I delivered the two pieces, I got to meet the little boys. I felt like I "knew" them after spending hours working on their features! It was such fun to see them busy playing and eating, and finding that their personalities really were reflected in these drawings.

GIFTS GIVEN AND RECEIVED
I am now able to show you the pencil portraits that I completed earlier in the fall of 2011, which were gifts given and received at Christmas. It was a lot of fun to see the reactions of the people who commissioned the drawings when they picked them up. I knew if they liked the portraits, chances are that those receiving the pieces would also like them. And I was right.
For this drawing of these two precious girls, the grandparents wrote that the gift was a "jaw dropping success"! Sweet words to my ears. :-)

| Summer Bliss Pencil Portrait 9" x 12" |
Heather won the draw, but took some time to find just the right photo for the portrait. I absolutely LOVE that her son is just taking a big bite of the ice cream sandwich! He has a big dark hat on his head, and it is obviously summer...ahhh for the warmth of summer again!
If you would like to have a pencil portrait done, just contact me at jogiesbrecht@gmail.com. Sending me a high resolution photo and making a few decisions about size and framing is all that is required!
