SUSAN LYON DVD - AND WE'RE OFF!!!

I have just about finished packing all of my supplies (clothing is definitely secondary), as we leave early tomorrow morning for Monterey Bay, California. It looks like a gorgeous place, and I am anticipating getting some photos that I can paint throughout the winter!

The third artist we will be studying from for an entire day, in small group setting is Susan Lyon. I love how etherial her work is in pastel - there is much left for the mind to fill in. The video I've included here is from a dvd which I bought, and recommend to you. Susan includes many wonderful tips for measuring and working in pastel which would help even a beginner to achieve recognizable results.

While I am gone, I will post some photos of the large oil commission I am painting. It is a labour of love - of fall colors, of "Bragg Creek", of the beauty of the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, and of the client it will go to when it is completed. That's what painting is all about for me. :-)

SEPTEMBER LONG WEEKEND - already???

I can't believe that September is already here! The long weekend which always signifies the beginning of fall is this weekend. That means cold rides on my bike instead of warm air flowing over me, cleaning up the garden and flower beds in preparation for fall, and only a few mornings of warmth left to have coffee on the deck as the sun rises.

But, it also means that I will soon be flying to California for the Weekend with the Masters Art Workshop and Conference. My daughter and I are very excited to leave the guys in charge of the children and have a week away where we don't have to cook or clean, just soak in all the wonderful instruction and then paint!

One of the instructors that we will be spending an entire day studying with in a small classroom setting (only 20 of us) is Scott Burdick. His style is much different from David Jon Kassan, so we will learn different techniques from him. Enjoy this video of his work.

DAVID JON KASSAN

In just over a week, I will be in California, in a workshop studying with David Jon Kassan as my instructor! I am really looking forward to learning from him - but am quite intimidated at the same time...I think you can understand why! What an opportunity! I really can't wait. :-)

VASARI OIL PAINTS

I AM EXCITED!!!! I have just received the most beautifully packaged paints EVER! This is half of my Vasari Oil Paints order which I will be taking with me to the Weekend with the Masters Conference and Workshop in California this September. I will be learning about broken color theory with David Jon Kassan!!! I am just sure that these beautiful and rather costly paints will make me a MUCH better painter... because they were recommended by David Jon Kassan for his workshop.  Can't wait!
