Mexican Lemons

This is my very first oil painting, and the first time I have painted in any medium on this type of hardwood panel which is from Opus Framing and Art Supplies. I have learned A LOT about oil paint, and the way it does or does not behave. It was great fun to try different things, but wow, is it ever messy!!! This plate was a beautiful one I picked up when we were in Guadalajara. An authentic, original, hand-painted plate like this one is not mass-produced, and has many irregularities. If there is not room for the same number of strokes in any given area, then there are less. If there is more room, then there are more painted strokes to fill the space. Each plate is totally unique!

I have another oil on canvas painting on the easel, as well as a couple of watercolors... but since I have returned to work, each one is not yet finished! For the number of you who expressed disappointment when Sunflowers sold, I am planning to begin another painting of sunflowers - bought some beautiful ones just before the weekend.

I am so happy to be in the final stages of recuperation from surgery with a little more energy returning every day. I received a beautiful stone plaque from some friends that says it all: "Life is good".

Wow, I get to be the first to congratulate you. Your plate could be a photo replica of the one you picked up here. It's so good! Is there anything you can't do???

I LOVE THIS PLATE!!!!! :D (you know I love plate paintings!!!!)

I also love the risks you've taken here with the dramatic yellow, white and black palette - very striking!

Not only is "Life Good" (*wink*), but this painting is good! In my opinion , you haven't skipped a beat, Joanne. Glad to hear you're continuing to feel like a new woman.

Thanks for all the encouragement, everyone. I loved playing with a new medium... but think that it would take me a loooooong time to master the intricacies of oil paint. It looks so simple when someone else handles it well!
