IPA - International Photography Awards 2009

 Sunflowers - an original 30" x 30" acrylic painting
               (private collection)

One of my goals for the year 2009 was to enter one of my photographs in an international photo contest. Last year I submitted an entry to the Photographer's Forum Magazine Spring Contest, and my photo named "Misty Mountain" was selected as a "Finalist". It was published in the Best of Photography 2008 Annual, which was a great honor for me.

This year, I received an email inviting me to participate in the International Photography Awards competition, also sponsored through Photographer's Forum Magazine.  So, I chose my best photo of Sunflowers, and entered it in the "flowers" category. The above painting is based on that photo.

I have no expectations for this contest. If you check out last year's entries, you will see the winning pictures are absolutely phenomenal. However, my goal was to enter a competition - and see where that leads!  So - one 2009 goal accomplished! Only 3 more to go... which will take the rest of the year, I am sure. :-)

The whole time I read you entry I kept saying to myself... "photograph?????? it looks like a painting!!!" Then I found out it was...
Fantastic!! You certainly are multi-talented!! Congrats on last year's finalist, on this wonderful sunflower PAINTING, and on setting achievable goals and reaching them!! (Those're MY kinda goals!!) (LOL)

Thank you Mirian! Yup - had to keep the goals simple and achievable in order to reach them. The one that I might have trouble reaching is to paint 50 paintings this year. I kind of had a slow start, but am cooking along now! Thanks for your visit to my blog - I enjoyed my time visiting yours!!!

Best of luck with your entry Joanne. Aim for the moon, even if you don't reach it, you are bound to land within the STARS!

Happy Easter to you and your family,

A

PS- Thank you so much for your last comment...you are too kind. I've had the good fortune to attend a few curling matches at the Moncton Coliseum where the Ford World Championships are underway. Tomorrow we have tickets for the gold medal match and we will bring our Canadian flags to cheer on your fellow Albertans (Team Martin). It will be a nail bitter.....HURRY, HURRY, HURRY HARD!!!!

Very dramatic painting. I like the composition and background color.

Thank you David. The actual photograph is quite stunning - but I won't put it on my blog until after the competition is over. Apparently, there are unscrupulous people on the internet - really! (tongue in cheek!) I enjoyed your sunflowers - will be back to check out your next painting.
