Beauty in a Bottle

Beauty in a Bottle
original 8" x 12" watercolor painting

I have a wonderful artist/photographer friend, Anni Jones, who lives in Oregon. For about 25 years, the Oregon coast has been one of my favorite ocean places, and I absolutely cannot tell you how gorgeous the beaches, rocks, and sand dunes are. When my children were young, we pulled a trailer and camped there for our summer holidays. Even though it was pouring rain the one year, and we had a tent trailer which dripped condensation the entire time, it was one of the best holidays ever!

Anni gets to travel to the coast quite a bit, and this last time got some spectacular pictures of the ocean pounding on the rocks, as well as some very interesting items on the sand. This bottle was one of the wonderful pictures she shared on Facebook. Even though she is a fabulous artist herself, she gave me permission to use the photo as the basis for this painting.

I love this bottle - all the colors in the glass, and the rusty growth on the bottle top and along the sides of the glass. It makes me long to be someplace where I can beachcomb - something we spent hours doing when in Oregon. I had great fun doing this painting. Thanks, Anni, for sharing your great talent with me, and encouraging me to use this photo for a painting!

This is beautiful! I love glass as a subject for painting, especially beach glass...

Hi Jala!

I appreciate your comment about this painting! This is the first time I have done glass and been "happy" with the results.

Yes - the Oregon coast is spectacular and rugged, with beautiful beaches and unexpected surprises like sand dunes the size of small mountains! It is truly a great experience! Maybe someday your husband will have to travel there for work???

Happy Spring!

Sorry about my poor typing skills...!

I meant to say, "Very nice how you captured both the shadow and the transparency of the bottle!"

Hello R. Thanks for the visit to my blog. I have just returned from a visit to yours - and am SO impressed with your work! Your tomatoes and apples are spectacular! I appreciate your comments about the bottle and its shadow! I'll definitely be visiting you again! Hope you are having a good day.
