The Bride - a learning work in progress

The Bride is a portrait I have begun for my night time sketching. This picture is of a bride in an African wedding. (A relative of my husband's lives in Africa, and this was a wedding he and his wife attended. His wife was in the wedding party.)

I have shaded the bride's features in 2B graphite pencil, laying in the shadows and tones of the planes of her face. I did her hair in pan pastel and LOVED how it turned out, and so I now want to do the face with pastel as well. I did not have the colors I wanted, so I am now waiting for my order to arrive from Dick Blick Art Supplies.

I have to admit, I am a bit nervous about starting the face with the pastel. I am hopeful it will look great in the end, but I am just learning this medium, so I have a lot that could go wrong! However, I have received some great advice from some fellow artists, so I am going to give it a go! You should check out their wonderful blogs: Jeanette Jobson and Teresa Stieben.

If The Bride turns out, I'll post the result. If not...well, I tried something new and learned from it!
