BOATS

"Boats"
original acrylic on canvas
20" x 24"

This painting is finally done! Yay! I am always happy when I have completed another painting - it almost is like giving birth in that I am relieved when it is over, but have a sense of loss that it is now no longer "a part of me"... However, I soon am excited about the next project, so I move on pretty quickly!
Speaking of boats, my husband has built 5 little boats - one for each of our grandchildren. Today three of them got to paint the boats - so exciting! Tomorrow, with the new sails attached, they will be launched in our little pond to see it they can stand up to the waves and wind! Such a special project with their grandfather. :-)

BOATS

The underpainting for "Boats" is now complete.  I'm not sure if I am going to leave the tree branches in front of the rocks as they are. Even though they were in the photo, I am thinking of removing them as I find them distracting. Guess we'll see when I do the next stage if they stay or if they disappear!

Boats

As you can see, the boats are now underpainted. I have left the canvas white for this painting as I want the blues and reds to be quite brilliant and have lots of punch. I love that I didn't have to manipulate the photo at all - there were 3 boats in just the right positions in relation to each other. Will work more on this tomorrow and see how far I am able to get!

A New Work

Boats on canvas

This is a new work I am about to begin. When we were on Gabriola Island back in November, 2010, we saw these boats pulled up on the bank which was covered with fallen leaves in many beautiful colors, and a couple of huge stones. I think this will be a great painting as the boats are in red, blue, and white. I have sketched the boats in pencil and then gone over them in a new type of marker I am trying out. It is supposed to eventually "disappear" into the paint, but keep your lines visible long enough for you to get your edges, etc. So often with pencil, the graphite smudges, especially if I am painting with white, so we'll see what happens with this marker...
