"GOLDEN GRASSES"
"Golden Grasses" is a commissioned triptych of textured acrylic paintings. This is not the best photo of this gorgeous grouping, but it's not nice enough to go outside to get a better likeness. It really glows with golden color!
This painting is going to a fellow artist as a gift from his daughters for Christmas. I think he will enjoy it. :-)

| Copper Series #4 SOLD |
A collector of mine from British Columbia was recently in Calgary. She and her family were some of the first people I came to know when I first arrived in Calgary so many years ago. So she is not only one of my most faithful supporters, she is also a very dear friend.
Recently she purchased some amazing copper candle holders in the States, (something to do with Frank Lloyd Wright :-), and when she saw these two paintings which were ready for my November show, she had to have them! She graciously offered to leave them here until the show was over, for others to see...but I thought she should have them right away instead of waiting several weeks.
She is going to pair the paintings and the candle holders to create a "Zen-like space" in her place of work, which is a highly stressful professional health practitioner's office. Once again she told me that the pictures of my work on the internet look good - but are NOTHING compared to how they look in person! To see the true beauty of these textured acrylics, make sure you come to my show on November 13th and 14th.
Come back for more details about the show in my next few blogs...

Wedding Gifts
Now that the wedding is over, I can show you the pieces I did as the wedding gifts.
The bride and groom were very specific in what they wanted for size, number, and color in my textured acrylic painting, but left it up to me to design the textures and how I put together the color combinations.
The couple wanted 6 paintings which were 8" x 8", in the colors of navy, green, bronze, silver, cream, and purple. The paintings were to hang in their bedroom.
This couple is extremely creative - involved in the arts in every way...theatre, productions, events, music, instrumentation, orchestration, voice, writing of music, and on and on...so I wanted the paintings to reflect the diversity of their talents, and be pieces of art which they would enjoy for years to come. (To give you an idea of how fun the weekend was - the wedding was in a small theatre in the city, with a playbill as the bulletin. The ceremony was even livestreamed to the internet.)
So here are the first 2 of the series. The bronze and silver painting is purely texture while the navy, silver and green are representational of an image... I was thinking of dark waves of water, with the silver as the foaming of the wave action. The green shells, of course, are on the beach, in the midst of the wave movement.

Textured Acrylic Painting #2

Textured Acrylic #2
8" x 8" textured acrylic on canvas
Here is the second painting in this series of textured acrylic on canvas. Depending on which way you hang this painting, it can look like mountains or like a zigzag pattern.

Textured Acrylic Painting #1

Textured Acrylic #1
8" x 8" textured acrylic on canvas
This is a new contemporary art series that I have begun. These little 8" x 8" acrylic paintings are textured with various mediums in different ways... I am finding this exploration great fun! As well, it fulfills a couple of goals for me. One was to do something for the first time twice a month. This is the first time I have ever painted a textured painting like this. As well, I had a goal for 2010 to explore different mediums and styles of painting - and this is definitely a departure from my "usual" style!
Watch for more in this series on upcoming blog entries. These are the kind of paintings I think would make a great corporate collection, or hung in the restrooms of high end restaurants. They are really beautiful!
